MURPHY DISAPPOINTED CRONIN WON’T PARTICIPATE IN STONEHILL COLLEGE DEBATE
Easton, MA – Today Dan Murphy, Easton Selectman and Republican nominee for State Representative in the 11th Plymouth district, expressed disappointment that his opponent Claire Cronin has refused to participate in the Stonehill College debate.
“I think debates help inform the public of our stances on the issues. I’m disappointed that Ms. Cronin is too busy to participate at the only college debate. One of us will be representing the college at the State House, so I believe it is important to discuss our issues there,” said Murphy. “If she cannot make herself available during the election season, then she certainly won’t be afterwards.”
Murphy wonders if Cronin is refusing due to their last joint appearance. During a Brockton cable show Cronin was unaware of the new law passed forcing home daycare centers into a state employee union if they accept one child on a state voucher. She claimed the bill being supported by one of her biggest donors the SEIU had not passed.
“I think for someone claiming to want to help small business she should have known that anit-business bill had passed. We are all still waiting to see if she will return the SEIU’s money to support our local women owned businesses or if her claims are just all talk,” said Murphy.
On a different campaign matter Murphy pledged opt out of the state pension system. He believes that politicians should not receive a pension for serving in office.
Dan Murphy is currently serving his second term as a Selectman and has previously served as a member of the Easton Finance Committee. He was born in Brockton and attended the Kennedy Elementary School before moving to Easton. He graduated from Boston College, and now lives in Easton with his wife, Erica, and three young children, the oldest of whom is attending Easton Public Schools.
Murphy owns a tax, accounting and payroll business, located in Easton, and remains active in community organizations and businesses in the area. He is a member of the Brockton Rotary Club and the Easton YMCA Board of Governors, and is a corporator at the North Easton Savings Bank. He is also a member and former Board member of the Easton Chamber of Commerce.
